귀넷-뉴턴-록대일 보건국은 지난 금요일(12일) 오전까지 1,2차 백신접종을 예약한 1만8천명에 대해 내주 접종을 실시할 예정이라고 밝혔습니다. 주정부가 백신접종 대상을 확대한 지 하루 만에 귀넷에서는 예약자들이 몰리면서 백신접종에 대한 수요가 크게 증가하는 모습입니다.
귀넷 보건소에서는 현재 매일 카운티 3곳(귀넷,뉴턴,록대일) 주민 2천여명에게 백신을 접종하고 있습니다. 하지만 백신 부족 현상이 여전히 걸림돌이 되고 있습니다.
오드리 아로나 귀넷 보건국장은 “주정부가 2200여곳에 가까운 백신 공급처를 확보해 둔 상태지만 정작 백신이 부족해 분량을 공급받는 곳은 절반 정도에 그치고 있다”고 말했습니다.
귀넷 보건국은 그러나 향후 백신 공급이 늘어날 것에 대비해 백신접종을 시행할 직원 수를 점진적으로 늘리고 있다고 전했습니다. 아로나 국장은 귀넷 플레이스 몰 이전 시어스 백화점 자리에 설치된 백신 접종소 한 곳에서만 매일 3천명에게 접종을 시행할 수 있을 만큼 직원들을 확보해 둔 상태라고 말했습니다.
또한 예약자 폭주 시 발생할 수 있는 문제들을 감안해 웹사이트 역량을 강화했다고 밝혔습니다. 메트로 애틀랜타 지역 상당수 보건국이 지난 1월 예약 사이트를 처음 운영할 때 예약자가 한꺼번에 접속하면서 웹사이트가 다운되는 등 큰 불편을 초래했기 때문입니다.
귀넷 주민들은 보건국이 운영하는 접종소 말고도 약국이나 식료품점, 병원 등에서도 예약 후 백신을 접종 받을 수 있습니다. 또한 주정부가 운영하는 주내 대형 백신접종소도 이용할 수 있습니다.
