메트로 애틀랜타의 코로나 19 입원률이 20% 감소하고 신규 확진자수가 연일 5천명 아래를 유지하는 등 가파르던 확산세가 다소 안정되는 모양새입니다. 8일부터는 연방정부로부터 8천회분 추가 백신 분량도 받게 되지만 문제는 주내 백신 수요를 따라잡기에 이같은 양은 턱없이 부족하다는 것입니다.
브라이언 켐프 주지사와 케슬린 투미 주보건부장관은 4일 디캡카운티 브룩헤이븐시 한 크로거 매장내 백신 접종소를 방문해 관계자들로부터 현황을 보고받고 백신 부족에 대한 우려를 표명했습니다. 크로거와 퍼블릭스, 잉글스 등 식료품 체인 약국에서는 현재 1A+ 우선 접종 대상 예약자에 한해 백신접종을 시행하고 있습니다.
켐프 주지사는 “향후 3주간 연방정부로부터 매주 15만6000도스를 공급받게 된다”며 “수요를 충족하기에는 여전히 충분치 못한 양”이라고 했습니다. 이어 “현재 주정부가 할 수 있는 모든 것을 다 하고 있지만 더 많은 백신을 공급받기 전까지는 별다른 방법이 없다”며 “인내심을 가져줄 것”을 당부했습니다.
한편 투미 주보건부장관은 조지아내 변이 바이러스 확진자가 최소 23명까지 늘어났다고 밝혔습니다. 투미 장관은 “이는 변이 바이러스가 이미 주 전역에 퍼지고 있음을 의미할 수 있다”며 “주지사가 수차례 언급한 것처럼 손세척과 마스크 착용, 사회적 거리두기 등 개인 위생과 방역에 신경써달라”고 강조했습니다.
켐프 주지사는 이날 충분한 양의 백신이 공급되기만 하면 백신접종 가속화를 최대치까지 끌어올릴 준비가 돼 있다고 했습니다.
현재까지 조지아에서는 1백만명 이상이 코로나 19 백신을 접종받은 것으로 나타났습니다.
