Job Description

Summary: The Molding Manager directs and coordinates the technical day to day plastic injection operations of the facility. Manages local scheduling and real-time operations that facilitate the maximization of resources (human and automated) to achieve customer satisfaction, productivity, and schedule adherence to goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Manage the overall activities of the molding department including but not limited to production, processing, machine maintenance and tool maintenance and repair.
• Direct and coordinate planning and scheduling of molding manufacturing with the General Manager to consistently meet expected product delivery schedules and inventory levels.
• Responsible for assuring the efficient use of materials, machines, molds, auxiliary equipment and employees.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of both the long and short term goals for the Molding Department.
• Perform mold set up and color changes to meet production demands as needed.
• Troubleshoot mold processes, machines, and auxiliary equipment problems and make necessary changes to ensure quality and reduce downtime.
• Set molding process parameters to ensure product meets dimensional and quality requirements.
• Provide technical assistance to molding technicians and operators. •Maintain employee performance review, training, development, and disciplinary programs.
• Provide leadership in the maintenance of all operational systems and process controls associated with mold processing, mold maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair. (Documented mold set ups, process intervention logs, product dimensional and visual evaluations supporting product requirements, product validations, etc.).
• Assure compliance to all molding area related procedures, policies, and work instructions. Participate in and support the Quality Management System.
• Train and develop molding personnel relative to the molding process (Process technicians and molding operators), promote employee understanding and adherence to safety regulations and the Quality Management System.
• Document, report and maintain all critical production information.
• Support new tool design and development.
• Coordinate outside repair and sourcing for tooling and machines.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide leadership to the shift supervisors, processors, set-up technicians and material handlers.
• Execute the daily production tasks and schedule the workforce.
• Ensure mold set-up and start-ups happen on-time and accurately according to Engineering and QA standards.
• Strive to meet standard cycle times and scrap rates.
• Evaluate staffing needs, interview, fill open positions and oversee annual performance appraisals.
• Provide all training necessary for technical molding personnel to perform their jobs successfully.
• Promote positive employee relations and adhere to Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
• Perform department audits. Ensure paperwork is handled correctly and departmental procedures are being followed.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of both the long-term and short-term goals of the Molding Department.
• Review and justify any equipment requirements for current and future needs.
• Work closely with all support departments to ensure production schedules are met on time.

Education and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business Management, Statistics, or related field
• Eight to ten years related experience
• Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, forecasting, scheduling, real-time operations management and coordination of people and resources.
• Experience in Robotics (preferred)
