애틀랜타에 본부를 두고 있는 질병통제예방센터(CDC)가 1일 오후 11시 59분부터 대중교통 이용시 마스크 착용을 의무화하는 행정명령을 발효함에 따라 메트로 애틀랜타서도 본격적인 단속이 시행될 예정입니다.
이번 행정명령으로 교통안전국(TSA)요원들은 마스크를 착용하지 않은 채 공항에 들어서거나 항공기에 탑승하려는 이용객들의 출입을 거부할 수 있습니다. 마스크 착용 없이 대중교통을 이용하는 주민들을 적발해 벌금을 물릴 수도 있습니다.
애틀랜타 공항은 이용자들에게 직접적으로 마스크 착용 의무화를 강요할 수 없어 각 항공사들이 자사의 규정에 따라 이를 제재해 왔지만 TSA가 단속 권한을 갖게 됨에 따라 규제 강화에 한층 힘이 실리게 됐습니다.
마르타를 포함해 유사한 대중교통 기관들도 이미 마스크 착용을 의무화한 상태입니다.
이번 CDC 지침에 따라 비행기, 기차, 지하철, 버스, 택시, 선박, 공유차량 탑승시 이용객들은 마스크를 의무적으로 착용해야 합니다. 또 탑승 전후 공항, 버스 정류장, 부두, 기차· 지하철역 등에서도 반드시 마스크를 써야 합니다.
다만 음식이나 약을 먹기 위해 잠깐 마스크를 벗는 것은 허용됩니다. 또 개인 자가용이나 상업용 트럭을 운전하는 경우는 제외됩니다.
