케이샤 바텀스 애틀랜타 시장이 다음 달로 다가온 NBA 올스타전 개막을 앞두고 팬들에게 애틀랜타 방문을 자제해 줄 것을 요청했습니다.
NBA 리그는 애틀랜타를 2021 NBA 올스타전 개최지로 선정하고 오는 3월 7일 스테이트팜 아레나에서 경기를 치룰 예정입니다.
바텀스 시장은 16일 자신의 트위터 계정을 통해 “정상적인 상황이라면 NBA 올스타전 애틀랜타 개최를 적극 환영하겠지만 올해는 다르다”며 “코로나 19 확산에 대한 우려를 NBA측과 상의한 결과 관중 없이 TV 이벤트로만 경기를 진행하기로 했으니 팬들은 파티를 즐기기 위해 애틀랜타로 이동하지 말아달라”고 당부했습니다.
애틀랜타 시의회는 NBA측이 애틀랜타를 올스타전 개최지로 선정한 이후 메트로 지역을 중심으로 코로나 19와 변이 바이러스가 확산하고 있는 현재의 상황에 우려를 나타내며 난색을 표해 왔습니다.
NBA측은 이번 올스타전이 엄격한 코로나 19 수칙 아래 진행될 것이라고 밝혔습니다. 선수들은 최소한의 손님을 초대할 수 있으며 모든 참가자들은 개인 차량 혹은 비행기로만 이동해야 합니다. 또한 선수들은 경기장 입장시를 제외하곤 호텔을 벗어날 수 없습니다. 경기 당일 NBA측은 백신을 접종받은 일부 의료관계자들을 초청할 예정이지만 일반 관중 입장은 철저하게 금지됩니다.
