오늘(25일)부터 조지아주 16세 이상 주민들은 누구나 코로나19 백신접종을 받을 수 있게 됐습니다.

수백만 명의 새 그룹이 추가로 접종 대상에 포함되면서 이전 단계 접종 대상자들은 ‘우리도 아직 못 맞았는데’라며 우려를 나타내고 있습니다.

교사인 데릴 테리씨는 채널2뉴스와의 인터뷰에서 “지난 2주 동안 크로거와 퍼블릭스 월마트 등을 포함해 여러 접종소를 알아봤지만 이미 예약이 다 차 있는 상태였다”고 했습니다.

테리씨는 교사와 교직원에 대한 접종을 허용한 지 얼마 되지도 않아 주정부가 모든 성인으로 대상을 확대하면서 가뜩이나 어려운 예약이 더 힘들어지게 된 건 아닌지 걱정했습니다.

브라이언 켐프 주지사는 이틀전(23일) 16세 이상 성인들에 대한 백신접종을 허용하면서 예약 경쟁이 심해질 수 있다는 점을 인정했습니다. 하지만 “조지아 북부 지역 새 할당량의 70%가 수요를 채우고 있다”면서 “당장 백신접종을 원하는 주민들은 메트로 지역서 차로 한 시간 정도 떨어진 곳만 찾아봐도 예약이 가능한 곳들이 있다”고 언급했습니다.

현재 연방정부로부터 공급 받은 백신은 주내 9개 대형 백신접종소와 수십 개 약국 체인, 클리닉, 병원 등에 배포되고 있습니다. 그러나 모든 접종소의 예약 현황을 한 눈에 볼 수 있는 중앙정보 시스템이 없는 만큼 이곳 저곳 예약이 가능한 곳을 찾아보는 것은 온전히 주민들의 몫입니다.

주보건국은 “접종 대상 확대로 수요가 폭증하고 공급이 달리는 것을 잘 알고 있지만 백신 분량을 늘리고 추가 공급을 받기 위해서는 보유하고 있는 백신을 다 소진해야만 한다”고 밝혔습니다. 이어 “백신 수요가 저조한 지역서 수요가 많은 지역으로 분량을 옮겨오는 등 가능한 많은 주민들이 백신을 신속하게 접종 받을 수 있도록 노력하고 있다”고 말했습니다.
